Position Summary: Full Time & Part Time EMT Staffing
The EMT staff member will perform duties associated with providing rescue services and emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Fairfield Hose Company VFD - EMS policies. Additionally, the staff member will be responsible to participate in shift training, quality assurance/improvement projects, and assorted public relations events. Fairfield Hose Co EMS provides EMS services to the residents and visitors of North Harborcreek Township and surrounding communities, Erie County. Our agency responds to approximately 1,000 incidents per year.
Available Shifts:
(1) Full Time Postion Steady Monday Thru Friday. Subject to change with admin approval. OT as Required
(Multiple) Part Time Postions Subject to change with admin approval.
Starting Pay: Starting Wage $20.00/Hr for Full Time - $18.00/Hr Part Time
Qualifications: Valid PA EMT - B, or Equivalent certification.
Educational Requirements: The staff member must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: The EMT – B is a must, at minimum, possess and maintain:
Minimum Experience, Abilities Required and Special Requirements:
The staff member must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and have a basic working knowledge of a personal computer. Must be able to respond to EMS / Rescue / Fire emergencies.

- A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license Class – C / with a clean driver record
- Pass a PA Criminal Background Check / PA & FBI Child Abuse Background Check
- Current Pennsylvania EMT-B certification at minimum.
- Minimum CPR certification
- Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) or EVDT certification
- Hazardous Materials Operations Level training*
- Essentials of Firefighting Curriculum, or Equivalent*
- Highway Incident Safety (VFIS 4 hr or 16 hr Course) *
- Helicopter Safety Course*
- ICS 100, ICS 200, NIMS 700*
- Water Rescue Awareness*
- PA Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician*
- Basic Rigging for Rope Rescue*

Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls.
- Determine the nature and extent of the emergency and provide for response and deployment of adequate resources to properly handle the emergency.
- Operate and maintain various power tools such as, extrication devices.
- Access, package, extricate and transport sick and injured patients from a variety of environments, including, but not limited to, burning buildings, wrecked vehicles, confined spaces, water, wilderness areas, and high and low angle areas.
- Prepare and submit any response documentation in an accurate and timely manner, and maintain appropriate records of inspections and station duties performed during shifts.
- May be required to participate in select public education activities.
- Provide assistance and administer appropriate BLS treatment to ill or injured persons according to accepted medical protocols and practices. Also, will be required to complete all patient care documentation and associated paperwork.
- Communicates clearly using portable radios and digital communication devices from emergency scenes.
- Position is subject to hazards. Working in limited visibility, proximity to electrical currents, and moving mechanical parts and equipment, exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, fume, odors, mists, dusts, gases or poor ventilation. Position is subject to all environmental conditions indoors and outdoors.
- Will be required to perform basic station duties during each shift.
- Will be required to perform daily training.
- Will be required to enter Data into fire reporting software for all fire/rescue emergencies.
- Other duties as assigned as circumstances dictate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as professional journals, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and internal department correspondence.
- Ability to write detailed reports, and business correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of peers, civic organizations, and the general public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, areas, volumes, and ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
- Ability to make sound judgments under stressful conditions.
- Ability to interpret and apply training and skills to practical situations through instructions given in written, oral, diagram or other forms.
